Held from Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to Sunday, October 5, 2025, this four-day photographic storytelling workshop in Morocco offered a timeless journey through a captivating city. A city of sky and rooftops, Tangier is unique in being bordered by both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
Participants were invited to conceptualize and photograph their journey within this legendary city—a source of inspiration for countless artists and intellectuals from around the world. A cosmopolitan, vibrant, and—above all—luminous place, this major African port at the gateway to Europe serves as an ideal setting for learning how to craft a narrative arc and build a photographic story.
This workshop brought together a team of professionals to mentor the participating photographers: Mina Mostefa, director of the Facing the sea Photo Meeting in Tangier, Dimitri Beck, Director of Photography at Polka (magazine, gallery, and factory), Stéphanie Gaou, director of the Les Insolites bookstore and gallery – which has exhibited over 120 artists since its inception; Lorenzo Virgili, photography coach, curator, and instructor at Transmission; and Wilfrid Estève, director of the Hans Lucas agency.
A partnership with the Leica Store Marseille—featuring the presence of either its manager, Marc Goncalves, or a brand representative—also provided an opportunity to discover the world of Leica and its latest products, as well as to borrow cameras.

Whether focusing on street, architectural, photojournalistic, or documentary photography, participants were fully immersed in the process of refining their approach and skills. The workshop invited them to embark on a personal journey – creating a photographic narrative that resonated with them or served as a source of inspiration – while stepping back to reflect on their work and collectively consider artistic choices or alternative narrative arcs that capture the essence of life in Tangier, from the Kasbah to the Medina.
Narrative techniques and the structuring of a photo series were subsequently honed through an analysis of their images. Finally, the editing of their portfolios was completed through discussions on the best ways to present their work.

Finally, their work was showcased on social media through a gallery featuring around ten of their photos. Each series was shared on a dedicated Instagram account, workshop.photo, in collaboration with the accounts of the Hans Lucas agency and the Facing the sea Photo Meetings of Tangier.
The quality of the photography produced during the previous workshops in Tangier led to a special distinction being awarded to Marie Julliard, who received complimentary access to Hans Lucas for six months along with a training course (a total value of €630), while the series by Michael Concu was screened during the Tangier photography festival.
